How to choose your cabinet style
STEP 1- Choose your cabinet type.
Cabinet Type 1 - FACE FRAME CABINETS
A traditional type of cabinetry where the carcass or cabinet box has a supporting frame attached to the front. The cabinet door is then mounted on the frame, this adds dimension to the door front. If you’re looking for greater customisations and space is not an issue, then this option works well.
Option 1- Plain Inset
Inset door fronts sit inside of the cabinet face frame openings, flush with the face frame.
Option 2- Beaded inset
These also sit inside of the cabinet face frame openings, flush with the face frame. However, these have an added decorative feature on the face frame directly surrounding the door. This detail is known as a bead, or a slight groove and rounded edge cut into the wood. The bead acts as a “frame within a frame” to outline the doors.
Option 3- Overlay
Where door sits ½” over the face frame.
Cabinet Type 2 - FRAMELESS EUROSTYLE CABINETS
A more contemporary type of cabinetry where the carcass has no supporting front frame, and the cabinet doors are attached directly to the sides of the cabinet box. This type of cabinetry offers a clean, modern look. The door can only be mounted to the sides of the carcass. These provide full access as by eliminating both the frame and the centre stiles between two cabinets doors. If your space is small and every inch matters, then this option is ideal for you.
STEP 2- Choose your door and drawer style.
Once you have decided on the cabinet type, it’s time to choose your door and drawer front style. There are endless door and drawer styles available and yes, we can build them.
- Shaker Style- is characterised by a square recessed flat panel. A style that is versatile as it complements many decor styles. Always a safe choice.
- Slab or flat style- is a minimalist style which is featureless. Great choice if you wish to showcase knobs or drawer pulls.
- Raised panel- these are made up of a frame and a raised panel. A more traditional look.
- Beaded- these contains an added decorative feature on the door frame directly surrounding the door or drawer front.
- Glass- an option where the centre panel is replaced with glass, providing a great opportunity to show off kitchen tableware and ideal for smaller spaces.
STEP 3- Choose your finish.
Cabinets can be finished in a variety of ways. Make the best choice by considering your personal style, kitchen and home style, cabinet style, functionality, durability and certainly cost and maintenance.
Here are a few options:
- Paint (choose your colour)
- Textured Woodgrain Melamine
- Lacquer
We understand, it’s hard to pick a clear winner!
Textured woodgrain melamine are contenders if a clean and modern look is high on your agenda.
If variety in colour is what you need, paint will give you this option.
